Oil palm trees start bearing fruits 2½ years after planting and have an economic life of up to 25 years. During this time, they will produce bunches of oil palm fruit which are harvested regularly and taken to the oil mills for processing.
The oil palm plantations are strategically located within close proximity to Lahad Datu where the oil palm fruits can be easily and quickly transported to the nearby oil mills and refinery for processing. In 2020, Kwantas had 56,917 hectares of plantation land, out of which 19,438 hectares had been planted. As part of its expansion plan, Kwantas is constantly looking at opportunities to expand its plantation landbank to increase the supply of fruits for the production of crude palm oil (CPO).
