:: Environment ::
Being a plantation business, Kwantas recognises the need to protect and preserve the environment we live in. This includes reducing waste emission, controlling the disposal of waste and preventing air pollution.
All the production facilities in Kwantas comply with international regulations on emission so as not to pollute the atmosphere with toxic and harmful fumes. The biomass power plant is one of the best examples where the waste products are used as the source of fuel for generating electricity. This reduces the reliance on fossil fuels and non-renewable energy.
The power plant also produces steam which is piped directly to the refinery which no longer needs to burn diesel to produce heat for the refining process.
:: Research & Development (R&D) ::
The latest technology is used in all parts of the production process to achieve optimum results in the extraction of palm oil and to obtain the highest quality oils. The Kwantas Group continues to invest in equipment and technology as required in order to remain innovative and competitive.
The researchers and technicians continually look for ways to improve on production methods and also to ensure that the highest standards of production are maintained. New uses of fruit residues and other by-products are being developed as well as discovering new products for the oleo-chemical industry. The R & D efforts even extend to the management of waste, which includes researching new and better ways to dispose and recycle waste products. An example of this is in the biomass power plant where waste products such as the empty fruit bunches and kernel shells are crushed and burned as fuel to generate power. |
